CeltX is an amazing media writing application. You can edit movie and play scripts, screenplays, podcasts, and of course, plain text. It’s extremely well-developed, and perfect for anyone into theater and arts. It’s surprising that CeltX is still free.

Komodo Edit is a nice text editor for Mac. It supports a lot of file types, and has tons of features that help you make your document look great. It also supports coding, and has syntax highlighting.

SimpleCSS is a CSS editor for making websites. It’s pretty light with the features, but it includes a preview mode, and is very easy to use. The interface is okay, but could use some updating. For a freeware CSS editing program, this is right up there.

Taco HTML Edit is a simple HTML editor for Mac. It’s not exactly feature-filled, but it gets the job done with its nice aqua interface. It supports text coloring based on different inputs of HTML code, and is faster than most editors I’ve used (because it’s super-light). Great little editor for web developers here.

RapidoWrite is a simple app that helps you type faster. No, it won’t teach you to type, but it lets you create abbreviations that will turn into text when completed. For example, I could type “Hello”, and have it change that to “Hello, welcome to Groove.MilesCrabill.com”. Just like the popular app TextExpander, but free.

Think is a distraction-free writing environment that keeps you focused on your writing. It’s kind of like the shareware app WriteRoom, but it’s free and still looks great. It’s not a text editor, it’s more of a wall with an adjustable transparency level and application switcher built in. Just use Exposé and choose any app, and the wall will fall behind it and keep you free from the distractions of another app.
